Leonard Dalsemer
Photographed in Lyford Cay in 1974, Leonard Dalsemer shows Dalsemer and his family at their villa on New Providence Island in the Bahamas. A turquoise pool fills the foreground, palms rise behind it, and the ocean stretches beyond the garden under a bright tropical sky.
The photograph belongs to the softer side of Aarons' world. It is not a hotel terrace or a public resort scene. It is a domestic picture, built around a family, a house, a pool, and the quiet order of a private tropical afternoon.
The scene carries its own gold beat:
Paradise looks less like escape than belonging.
What makes the image work is the balance between formality and ease. The pool, garden, palms, and villa create a precise composition, but the people inside it keep the picture from becoming only decorative. It is a portrait of a place being lived in.
This work is offered as an unframed Open Edition Pigment Print, documented through Getty Images Gallery and connected to the Slim Aarons archive through its Getty Images Archive embossing and Certificate of Authenticity.
