Salvador Dalí II
Photographed in 1973 at Dalí's villa in Cadaqués and published in Playboy's December 1976 issue, this image came out of a commission to render the erotic world of the artist's imagination as a series of staged tableaux, each composed and directed by Dalí himself.
Posar spent two weeks in Cadaqués. Working from preliminary conceptual sketches, Dalí staged each scene himself, directing the models and crew while Posar translated the compositions into photographs. Playboy Photo Director Gary Cole later remembered the assignment as one of Posar's most unusual and memorable collaborations.
Asked what the images meant, Dalí answered with characteristic bluntness:
The motivation was money, and the work was equal to the payment.
The remark feels inseparable from the image itself, where spectacle, absurdity, commerce, and desire become part of the same surreal arrangement.
In Salvador Dalí II, the artist sits at the edge of the frame holding a three-dimensional geometric model, a lattice of rods and spheres rising from its base, while a group of nude women is arranged around him against a bright white wall. The composition sets the female body inside a world of structure and mathematical form, eroticism staged as theater under Dalí's direction.
Conceived by Dalí, photographed by Posar, and preserved within the Playboy Legacy Collection, the work is part of the forty-eight print archival edition released for Playboy's 50th anniversary.

The Playboy Legacy Collection was released in 2007 for the magazine's 50th anniversary as a forty-eight-print archival edition curated under the direction of Hugh Hefner. Each print is embossed with the archive seal bearing the Playboy Bunny mark and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
