Saddle II
Made in Paris in 1976, Saddle II continues the charged interior world of Saddle I, but shifts the scene toward shadow, evening dress, and theatrical scale.
A sharply dressed woman stands beside a grand piano while her shadow rises across the wall behind her. Newton uses the room as a stage: the piano, the figure, and the projected shadow all become part of the same visual performance. The body is present, but the silhouette becomes the more dominant form.
Elegance held so still the room seems to hold its breath.
As a companion to Saddle I, the image deepens the series' language of control. It is less bedroom tableau than psychological theatre, an interior organized around posture, shadow, and command.
