Rue Aubriot with Nude Model
Made at the same Rue Aubriot location as Newton's landmark Le Smoking image, this companion photograph sharpens the duality at the center of the series: one body armored in the tuxedo, the other exposed.
The tuxedoed figure stands with Newton's familiar authority, while the nude counterpart introduces a counterforce of vulnerability and confrontation. The street remains empty, the light narrow, the mood unmistakably nocturnal. Newton stages fashion and nakedness not as opposites, but as twin forms of power.
Newton on his method:
I like working at night. And I don't use a flash; I use the actual street lighting.
As a companion to Rue Aubriot, the image reveals how fully Newton understood contrast: clothed and unclothed, masculine and feminine, protection and exposure, all held inside the same Paris frame.
