Playmate Victoria Silvstedt
Published in Playboy in June 1997, Playmate Victoria Silvstedt is one of the collection's most lyrical outdoor studies: the Swedish model and 1997 Playmate of the Year, backlit on the beach at Playa Careyes, Mexico. Bent forward to the wet sand to write her name, she is rimmed in warm light, her long shadow thrown across the shore toward the viewer.
Silvstedt grew up in a small town in Sweden near the Arctic Circle before becoming one of the magazine's most recognizable Playmates of the 1990s. The photograph came together by chance. Wayda and Silvstedt were on the beach when the idea emerged to use the clean wet sand as part of the image. They chose a place where the surf washed back across the shore, leaving only a brief window for her to write, settle into position, and be photographed before the next wave erased the scene.
Wayda described the moment simply:
It was something that just happened.
In Playmate Victoria Silvstedt, she stands bent sharply forward at the waist, legs straight, one arm reaching down to trace her name into the sand, her hair gathered up. Lit from behind by the low sun, her body falls into warm shadow against the pale, glowing beach, while her own long shadow stretches across the foreground in a dark graphic diagonal. The image reads less as a conventional nude than as a study of line, light, and a fleeting moment on an empty shore.
Photographed by Wayda, modeled by Silvstedt, and preserved within the Playboy Legacy Collection, the work is part of the forty-eight-print archival edition released for Playboy's 50th anniversary.

The Playboy Legacy Collection was released in 2007 for the magazine's 50th anniversary as a forty-eight-print archival edition curated under the direction of Hugh Hefner. Each print is embossed with the archive seal bearing the Playboy Bunny mark and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
