Playmate Monique St. Pierre
Published in Playboy in June 1979, Playmate Monique St. Pierre captures the 1979 Playmate of the Year at the height of the disco era, photographed by Richard Fegley on the roof of the magazine's former Sunset Boulevard office building with Los Angeles glittering below.
The image was built with a double exposure: Fegley lit St. Pierre in the foreground with a strobe, then allowed the city lights to burn into the background. The result is both portrait and skyline, a rooftop fantasy in which the body and the city become part of the same nocturnal composition.
Fegley described his approach to the body as a question of design:
I like pictures that have some design to the position of the human body, bending it into an s-curve or z-design.
In Playmate Monique St. Pierre, she leans against the rooftop railing in a sheer, glittering dress, her body turned in profile as the lights of Los Angeles stretch across the night behind her. The pose is elongated and architectural, all curve, line, and atmosphere: a queen of the city photographed above her own kingdom.
Photographed by Fegley, modeled by St. Pierre, and preserved within the Playboy Legacy Collection, the work is part of the forty-eight-print archival edition released for Playboy's 50th anniversary.

The Playboy Legacy Collection was released in 2007 for the magazine's 50th anniversary as a forty-eight-print archival edition curated under the direction of Hugh Hefner. Each print is embossed with the archive seal bearing the Playboy Bunny mark and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
