Hotel Deluxe I
From Guido Argentini's Hotel Deluxe series, photographed in a European-style Pasadena mansion and published in Playboy in December 2001, this image stages erotic fantasy as luxury-hotel theater: gold light, ornate interiors, polished surfaces, and bodies arranged with deliberate artifice.
Argentini built his reputation in exactly this register. Florence-born and Milan-based, he came to photography after studying medicine, then developed a visual language of controlled glamour, theatrical staging, and highly polished erotic composition. Playboy's art direction placed the Hotel Deluxe work in conversation with Helmut Newton, joining high style with frank eroticism.
A luxury-hotel fantasy, staged as theater.
In Hotel Deluxe I, one woman sits elevated against an ornate interior, gold-lit and composed with formal precision, while a second figure below her performs the role of attendant within the imagined hotel world. The scene is not meant to feel accidental or natural. It is arranged, polished, and knowingly artificial, turning service, display, and desire into a single theatrical vignette.
Photographed by Argentini and preserved within the Playboy Legacy Collection, the work is part of the forty-eight-print archival edition released for Playboy's 50th anniversary.
